About Poppy

A little about me... I started tutoring whilst completing my Biology degree after having been involved in programmes throughout school, such as peer listening, to support other students both pastorally and academically. Realising my love for teaching (and my knack for it!), I incorporated it into my degree wherever possible and became very involved in science communication. On completing my Masters, I became a teaching assistant, alongside being a tutor, which has been some of the most rewarding work I have done.

About the lesson

Hi there! I'm Poppy, a maths tutor with over six years of experience specialising in building confidence. My lessons are very much tailored to the individual in terms of ability, learning style and any SEN, however, a basic structure would be as follows: * Refresher of last week's work * Introduction to current lesson and input * Worked questions * Individual questions * Summary PLEASE NOTE: I CAN BE FLEXIBLE WITH DAYS AND TIMES IF NEEDED Lesson length is usually 40 minutes, this being the optimum length concentration wise, however, I can be flexible. Tuition purely for revision/improving exam technique in the run up to examinations may take on a different structure. I have a strong belief in improving the confidence of students as well as their achievement and, more often than not, the latter improves with the former. I have worked with students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and anxiety and have developed a wealth of resources helpful in supporting extra needs. *Experience* My tutoring experience includes multiple GCSE exam boards including AQA, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC. I have supported students aiming for the highest grades as well as those looking to push their grades over the pass mark. Specific topics, support with the whole curriculum or just improving exam technique are all options I am experienced to offer. I have also had the privilege of homeschooling a number of students from primary school all the way up to GCSE involving teaching the curriculum from scratch. This, alongside my work as a year 5/6 teaching assistant (frequently tasked with teaching year 6 maths due to the mixed classes), has provided me with outstanding knowledge of the UK maths curriculum itself, as well as how best to deliver it. Despite all this, I believe the best way to find you the right tutor is to have a chat and find out your specific needs, or indeed work out these needs together. I look forward to hearing from you:)
