About Andrew

Andrew teaches alongside the KEBMusicTuition team, since spring 2022 and offers tuition in Violin and Music Theory. He also currently teaches privately and at Telford Music School and previously taught for the Sandwell Music Service, coaching quartets and assisting with orchestral rehearsals. He combines teaching with playing work in string quartets and orchestras. He has recently played with ensembles including the Manchester Concert Orchestra, the Northern String Quartet, the English Symphony Orchestra and supporting musicals and operas.
He gained a Masters degree in Music Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music from 2018 to 2020, studying with the renowned teacher Yair Kless and absorbing his ideas, as well as with Steven Wilkie. Before that he took his undergraduate degree at Birmingham Conservatoire from 2011 to 2015, studying with Ulla Benz and David Le Page. He gained a considerable amount of orchestral experience as well as solo and chamber playing, working with the Welsh National Opera and the Manchester Camerata, and has been asked back to Birmingham Conservatoire several times to assist the Symphony Orchestra and the Operatic Department.
Andrew started his musical training on the violin at the age of six, learning with Lucy Akehurst using the Suzuki method, and playing for many local ensembles. He took Grade 8 Violin with Distinction at the age of 14. He is keen to expand his teaching in the Birmingham area.
He benefitted greatly from playing experience, acquired in the Birmingham Schools Orchestras, CBSO Youth Orchestra and other local area ensembles, experiencing a broad repertoire of classical music and developing ensemble skills. He would very much like to encourage his pupils to follow the same route.

About the lesson

I am a passionate and enthusiastic Violin Teacher, with a masters degree in Violin from the Royal Northern College of Music.

I currently teach 12-15 pupils on a flexible schedule in person or online. I have been lucky enough to study with renowned teachers Yair Kless, Steven Wilkie and Ulla Benz, so I have a strong overview of violin technique and musical interpretation on the violin.

At the same time I adapt my approach to the individual student. I realise that what works for each student will be different and I aim to respond to this.

I currently teach pupils of all ages, from children to adults. I aim to make learning the violin fun and give my pupils a chance to enjoy their playing.

I teach the violin using different methods and resources, using pieces from the Suzuki Violin Method to begin with and then branching out to ABRSM Violin grades.

My teaching includes giving students technical work to assist the violin repertoire including studies by Kreutzer, Mazas, Rode and other exercises by Schradieck and Sevcik.

I teach Abrsm theory as well for those looking to take exams or for those who want to improve their knowledge of harmony or music theory.

I currently teach pupils of all ages, from children to adults. I aim to make learning the violin fun and give my pupils a chance to enjoy their playing.
