Teaching Method & Techniques
My teaching methodology is rooted in elementary pedagogy, focusing on structured literacy and student-centered learning.
Explicit Phonics & Decoding: Breaking down complex words into manageable sounds to build independent decoding skills.
Guided Active Reading: Using real-time prompts, questioning, and visualization during reading to ensure constant engagement and prevent passive scanning.
Scaffolded Comprehension: Moving systematically from basic literal understanding (who, what, where) to critical thinking (main idea, inference, tone).
Multi-Sensory Vocabulary: Introducing new words through context, visuals, and interactive sentence-building rather than simple rote memorization.
Typical 60-Minute Lesson Plan
Warm-Up & Sight Words (10 Mins): Quick interactive game or flash-card review targeting key vocabulary and sound patterns.
Core Text Introduction (10 Mins): Previewing the text, setting a reading purpose, and introducing new vocabulary in context.
Guided & Interactive Reading (20 Mins): Alternating between reading aloud and shared reading, pausing for real-time comprehension checks and strategy applications.
Targeted Skill Activity (15 Mins): Completing a focused task, such as graphic organizers, story mapping, or answering analytical questions.
Wrap-Up & Self-Reflection (5 Mins): Reviewing the main takeaways and allowing the student to explain the story's core message in their own words.
