About Shrivas
Hello, I'm Shrivas, a pianist, educator, and arranger based in Chennai. I have achieved Grade 8 in piano with distinction and am currently working on my final piece in preparation for the ATCL examination. In addition to my musical pursuits, I am also pursuing a diploma in sound engineering at Sound Tech Media. With a solid background in Western classical and jazz music, along with my versatility in various musical fields, I aim to provide my students with a strong musical foundation. My approach encourages students to develop the skills necessary for independent learning, ensuring that the knowledge they gain will be valuable regardless of the path they choose in their musical journey.

As a professional piano teacher with a background in Western classical/Jazz music, I offer personalized one-to-one lessons tailored to each student's individual needs and goals. The classes cover a comprehensive range of topics, from foundational techniques like proper posture, technical exercises, scales & arpeggios, to music theory, harmony, aural, sight-reading, and coverage of repertoire from Bach to Bruno Mars. My teaching philosophy centers around the belief that music is a powerful form of expression and communication. I emphasize the importance of not just playing the notes correctly, but also understanding the underlying harmony, melody, and rhythm, as well as the historical and cultural context of the music. A deep understanding of what we are playing allows for a more nuanced and meaningful performance. Finally, I stress the crucial role of slow, deliberate practice. This allows students to build a solid foundation, develop accuracy, and prevent the development of bad habits. Consistent, focused practice, even in short bursts, is far more effective than long, unfocused sessions.
