About Edelgard

I am a German National and have a teaching qualification obtained in Germany. I can teach different levels including students preparing for their GCSE and A-level exams as well as adults. I have been teaching at secondary schools, colleges, in companies and at the Ministry of Defence.

About the lesson

I approach each topic by covering all skills (reading, speaking, writing, listening) and use different materials e.g. textbooks, texts and videos from the internet, audios, role plays and games. I provide homework if necessary and advise on extra activities that would help learning. I am enthusiastic about teaching and can tailor lessons to your needs and personality.

It´s a pleasure to work together with Conrad as he is motivated and engaged in the lessons. He has already made good progress in the German Grammar. I´m confident that he will achieve a good grade in his exam with more practice and if he works a bit harder.

Edelgard is fun, possesses a warmth, and a good feel for her student capabilities, strengths and weeknesses. My lessons were only curtailed through business budget constraints and it was such a pity to have stopped.

I was taught by Edelgard for around 8 weeks before I moved to Germany, unfortunately I only completed one hour a week of German lessons. I was advised by Edelgard to complete more than this but time and money constraints (as I am a student) got in the way. As a complete beginner she explained that I should let her know if she was going at the correct speed for me to learn. This was correct and very helpful. And I feel confident to greet people and communicate in a shop environment.

I charge different tariffs for different levels: GCSE GBP 32.00, Adult learner GBP 32.00 (conversational) and GBP 34.00 (intermediate/advanced level) I will increase the hourly price depending on the distance travelled. I have a cancellation policy of 24 hours.

I speak the language fluently because I am a German national.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
In my opinion Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is one of the most influential writers of the German language. His work has had a huge influence on literature, politics, and philosophy in the Western world from the late 18th century to the present.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
I like the expression „Das ist mir Wurst.“(That's sausage to me)
A phrase expressing indifference, meaning "I don't care" or "It's all the same to me“
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Speaking my native language matters a lot to me as it connects me with my home country and roots.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
The German grammar can be a bit challenging at the start but it gets easier with time once you know the rules. It helps if you study every day, listen to videos, pod casts and use apps like duolingo
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I studied English and French at school and enjoyed learning foreign languages. It was important to me that the teachers could explain well in a way I understood and I also had fun in my lessons.  
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language? 
If you travel to a foreign country and are able to have a conversation in the target language it´s a very satisfying experience for yourself but also the people in the target country will appreciate it if you speak or try to speak their language. I made progress when I was surrounded by the target language (people, tv, etc.) and listened and spoke the language every day.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I think because I am a German National and know my language very well but also because I like to teach my language to other people. It is very encouraging for me to see the progress of my students; especially if they started as beginners and are able to speak my language in due course almost fluently. I always tailor my lessons to the students needs and is important to me that they enjoy their lessons. I also think that is crucial that you are able to explain the grammar very well as many students struggle with this at the beginning and it´s very satisfying for me if students understand it better with my help and enjoy learning the German language. For me it´s also very important to establish good relationships between me and my students as this plays a huge part in the learning process and enjoying the lessons.
