About Tom

As a huge geography nerd, I enjoy sharing this love of geography with my students. I am now a full-time online tutor that will dedicate all my time to ensure my students will meet the targets they need to meet. I have spent the last 12 years teaching in schools both in Barcelona, Spain and the UK. I have taught geography in secondary schools at key stages 3, 4 and 5 with particular focus on GCSE and A-level geography. My specific expertise is coaching students on exam technique which is evidenced by a proven track record of positive progress with my classes. Having worked and lived abroad, I also have experience with international exams such as IGCSE and IB. Due to the large amount of content in these exams, I tend to find students struggle with the complex connections that are needed to understand the world we live in. This often means that students have difficulty understanding what is required of them when it comes to the exams. Through dedicated practice with proven techniques, I coach students on how to recognise these connections and improve their scores.

About the lesson

In my first lesson, we will discuss what areas of geography, students want to focus on. I find that it is best to fit my lessons around what the students need to succeed. Based on this, I will create a learning plan for you. In all my lessons, including the first one, we will always start with discussing and prompting something geographical happening in the world today and relate it to the learning focus. We will then do activities that will help you to retain and understand this knowledge. If you are working towards an exam, we will then relate this focus to an exam-style question.

Perfect! Tom is a real nerd.

Even in the free trail lesson Tom went deep into the subject beyond our expectations, which many teachers are unwilling to do. Aaron throughly enjoyed the lesson and excited for the next one.

Thank you Tom

I employed Tom a few years ago based on a recommendation and I was extremely impressed with his teaching style, attitude and dedication to the students. Tom has a lot of experience of teaching children and teenagers with great success and was relied upon to give training sessions to other teachers to help them deliver the best lessons possible. He is very knowledgeable about his subject, kind and patient, and additionally he is able to connect with young people in a way that allows them to maximise their potential and reach their goals.
