Hi!
My name is Alex Startsev and my main speciality and reason for being a successful tutor is in helping students to achieve high grades in upcoming exams. I offer tuition for GCSE, AS/A-level and IB exams. In my experience a majority of students require guidance in exam technique and an in depth look at core concepts. I believe with the right kind of encouragement and teaching, students show remarkable progress and go on to achieve A*s, As, and 7s.

***What can I expect in the first lesson? ***
The first lesson is aimed at gauging the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I usually ask a few questions and set a small assessment covering multiple areas of the curriculum. I also ask students to send me any recent results/papers to help me speed this process up.
***What can I expect from a typical lesson?***
My lessons will typically commence with a starter activity which targets a random part of the curriculum. The activity helps me to continually update the student’s tracking profile on what topics they are succeeding at and what they need more work on. After this, I usually focus on a specific topic which needs work. This will involve a period of teaching followed by a period of practise. If there is time, this process can be repeated for more topics. At the end of the lesson, we reflect on what we covered and set homework to solidify learning.
***How do I teach online?***
For my students to see my handwriting, I use an iPad with an Apple Pencil. I use an online whiteboard where I can write freely or import and annotate documents. Students can also write on here. For video calls and setting homework, I like to use Google Meet. All of this means that online lessons are identical to face to face ones!
***How do I track progress?***
I use Notion, a work-spacing tool to track the progress of every one of my students. This gives me the ability to plan exactly what to work on each week as well as provide parents and students real time progress.
