About Nicky
My teaching career started in 2006 after successfully navigating some years working in publishing and events. I spent nearly 16 years in secondary schools and sixth form colleges in Hampshire before relocating to Dorset and launching an education consultancy business teaching young people, trainee teachers and working for a large UK exam board.

As a very experienced teacher at KS3/4/5, I enjoy dealing with students with a wide range of abilities and needs. My students would say I am passionate about English and I hope to pass on just a little bit of my love for my subject to them!
As an examiner and coursework moderator, I am focused on the mark schemes - what we need are strategies to ensure that our energies are directed towards what will yield the highest marks. One of the things my students find most tricky is knowing exactly what they should be writing about for each question - I can help with that! My approach is to try to make filling up that big white expanse of lined paper a little less daunting by giving my students structures that they can use to help scaffold their responses. This is often transformational in terms of marks gained but even more so in terms of confidence levels!
I teach students from age 11 - KS3 but I really specialise in GCSE preparation (Language and Literature) and all English A Levels. If you are studying English Literature, I will check your texts - I'm familiar with an awful lot but not all and I want to make sure that I can really help you! If you are studying English Language then, whoopee! That is my specialist subject and I can help you to unravel all the mysteries of language change, language variation and the dreaded investigation NEA.
