About Nishen

Hi, I’m Nishen — an Oxford Engineering Science graduate with a First Class Honours degree and a Master's at Harrow School, where I teach Mathematics, Computer Science, and Design Technology & Engineering. I’m passionate about Engineering and Engineering education for a broad demographic of students from Year 8 students up until undergraduates. My tutoring approach is highly personalised and centred around understanding each student’s unique strengths and challenges. I begin by identifying your learning style and specific goals, then adapting my teaching methods to suit your needs. I aim to create a supportive and engaging environment where you can build confidence and develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. I place a strong emphasis on problem-solving and critical thinking, ensuring you’re equipped not only to grasp concepts but also to apply them effectively in exams and real-world contexts. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I enjoy travelling and exploring new cities. Oxford, with its rich cultural and academic heritage, remains a favourite. I also unwind with a game of snooker or chess, which helps keep my thinking sharp and strategic. I’m committed to providing a tailored learning experience that supports your academic journey and helps you achieve your full potential.

About the lesson

Are you an undergraduate student seeking to build a strong foundation in Engineering Science? Whether you're studying mechanical principles, electrical systems, materials, or mathematical methods, I offer expert, personalised tutoring designed to help you thrive academically and build real confidence in core concepts. About Me I graduated with First Class Honours in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and have extensive experience teaching engineering and mathematics to students at both pre-university and undergraduate levels. I currently teach at an elite UK private school, mentoring high-achieving students on complex design and research projects from building one-person electric race cars to developing individualised research projects. My Approach to Teaching My tutoring style is rigorous yet supportive. I focus on developing deep conceptual understanding through a blend of: Problem-based learning: Applying theory to real-world problems to reinforce core principles Socratic questioning: Encouraging students to reason through challenges rather than memorising answers Visual explanations and simulation tools: Using diagrams, CAD, and code, where helpful, to model physical systems Structured review: Each lesson generally ends with a brief synthesis to consolidate learning and address gaps I believe that the best learning occurs when students are empowered to ask questions, test their ideas, and apply their knowledge creatively. Lesson Format Typical lesson length: 60–90 minutes Format: Online or in-person (depending on location) Includes: Help with time management, exam techniques, and additional problem set help. Who These Lessons Are For First- and second-year Engineering undergraduates who want a clearer understanding of their course content. Subjects Covered Include Statics & Dynamics Thermodynamics Materials & Structures Electrical and Information Engineering Engineering Mathematics and Computing Biomedical Engineering Whether you're looking to clarify lecture material, prepare for exams, or stretch beyond the syllabus, I can help you build the clarity and confidence you need to excel.
