About Maud

Hi! I’m Maud, a friendly and enthusiastic German tutor with a First Class degree in Modern Languages and Cultures from Durham University, where I specialised in German and Spanish.
I have a strong academic background in German and have spent time living, studying and working in Germany. Most recently, I worked as a British Council Foreign Language Assistant in a German primary school, where I taught English to children aged 6–11 and gained plenty of experience adapting my approach to different ages, abilities and personalities.
I speak German fluently and particularly enjoy helping students become more confident using the language for themselves. I know that German can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when it comes to grammar, but I’m a big believer that learning a language should be enjoyable as well as effective.
Outside of languages, I’m currently studying History of Art at postgraduate level in London. I’m curious about lots of different subjects, so I’m always happy to bring a student’s own interests into our lessons and find ways to make German relevant to them.

About the lesson

I tailor each lesson to the individual student, whether you’re starting German from scratch, working towards an exam, or simply want to become more confident speaking and understanding the language.
Lessons can include a mixture of conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and listening, depending on what you’d like to work on. I like to make lessons practical and engaging, using real German wherever possible rather than relying solely on textbook exercises. We can also work with German films, music, articles and other material that interests you.
If you have a particular goal, such as improving your spoken German, preparing for an exam, getting to grips with difficult grammar or feeling more confident using German at work or while travelling, I’m very happy to build lessons around that.
Most importantly, I want lessons to feel relaxed and encouraging. Making mistakes is a normal and important part of learning a language, so I aim to create an environment where you can practise without worrying about getting everything perfect.
I am happy to offer 30 minutes or an hour, depending on what you feel fits you best.
