About Grace

Teaching flute to adult learners is one of the most rewarding parts of my life. Many of my students come to lessons after retirement, during a life transition, or simply because they finally have time to invest in something meaningful. I don’t believe in rigid methods or fast-paced pressure. Instead, I focus on crafting a lesson experience that feels like a weekly moment of discovery. Together, we explore not only the fundamentals—breathing, embouchure, posture, rhythm—but also the emotional connection to music. I’ve found that adults thrive with gentle structure, patient guidance, and tools that help them hear their own progress. That’s why I provide recordings to track improvement, offer flexible sheet music options, and use a mix of written notation and ear training. My students tell me they look forward to our sessions not just for the music, but for the feeling of accomplishment and joy that follows. Whether your goals are to play with a group, surprise your grandchildren with a song, or simply enjoy the peaceful practice of playing flute at home, I’ll help you build your skills with encouragement and purpose.

About the lesson

For many of our students, especially those who come to us after negative past experiences with music education, creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment is essential. We understand how vulnerable it can feel to pick up an instrument later in life—especially in a world that often associates learning with youth.

That’s why we emphasize progress over perfection, and why we celebrate every breakthrough, no matter how small. If you’ve ever been told you’re “not musical,” “too old,” or “not good enough,” we’re here to help rewrite that story. We believe that music belongs to everyone, at every age, and that learning to play is a deeply human act of joy, expression, and healing.
