About Kayla
My academic journey began in Greenville, SC, where I attended North Greenville University, where I played collegiate softball, served as a resident assistant, and ultimately graduated with the bachelor’s degree in health sciences from the Concentration and Wellness programming and community and public health with a minor in biology in 2019. I then completed my bachelor's degree in nursing at Marshall University in Mars Hill, NC in 2021. Upon graduation, I married the love of my life and moved from Asheville, NC to East Tennessee where I started my nursing career at Leconte Medical Center, working as a bedside RN for five years in the critical care unit. I began to grow my love for critical care, obtaining my critical care registered nurse certification, CCRN. I then completed my Master's degree of Nursing in May 2025 and left the bedside to pursue my dream of practicing medicine. I began a career as a dual trained Pulmonology and Critical Care Nurse Practitioner. Driven by my passion for growth and continuing my education to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice through East Tennessee State. Throughout my doctoral studies, I focused on evidence-based practice and improving patient outcomes in the intensive care setting. My DNP project centers on implementing the ABCDEF bundle In adult critical care settings to improve long term outcomes and enhance patient care standards. Additionally, this project has been accepted for presentation to the Sigma International Research Conference in Toronto, Canada in July 26th and also gained system wide interest in implementation across Covenant Health system. In addition to our professional accomplishments, I value family, home and creating a meaningful life outside of work. I believe that success is not measured by career but rather by the relationships we build and the impact we have on others as I continue to grow in nursing. My goal remains the same, to leave him with compassion, advocate for patients and contribute meaningful improvements to the nursing profession. I attribute my success to my loving family and their unwavering support and most importantly my savior, Jesus Christ for leading me to nursing and providing me with a rewarding and fulfilling career path.

As a tutor I focus on reinforcing learned skills/knowledge by using questioning and focusing on areas of concern. I focus on teaching students how to study and prepare for exams by breaking down test questions and evaluating the root of missed questions. I work with the student to develop a study plan that best fits their learning style and schedule. Lessons are for those enrolled in nursing school (ASN or BSN) and those enrolled in nurse practitioner school (FNP, AGACNP, AGPCNP) and those looking for support during DNP capstone projects. My areas of expertise include family medicine, nurse practitioner, NCLEX prep, AANP prep, Med-Surg, Nursing fundamentals, critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine.
