About Kayla
Hello! I’m Kayla! a psychology-trained online tutor with over 5 years of experience teaching children aged 4–8 (Kindergarten to Grade 2). I specialize in supporting both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners—including those with ASD, ADHD,ODD,, OCD, and more. Bachelor of Science in Psychology, focusing on cognitive development, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. 5+ years of hands-on tutoring experience, including advanced training in educational therapy, UDL, and structured scaffolding methods. Academic + SEL in every lesson: I weave math, English, or science with social–emotional learning—building skills like growth mindset, emotion vocabulary, and self-regulation alongside curriculum content. Student-first learning: Lessons are customized through visual supports, game-based practice, movement breaks, and reinforcement systems based on each child’s unique needs and preferences. Clear structure, flexible pace: Whether your child thrives with routine or needs sensory-friendly options, I adapt each session to support comfort and engagement. Pre- and post-session check-ins with parents about emotions, mood, and goals—so sessions are closely aligned with your child’s current needs. I share quick, practical tips for reinforcing lesson content at home—like follow-up questions, emotion-check prompts, or sensory choices to support focus. This level of collaboration ensures each session is personalized and responsive to your child’s current needs.
We begin with a short, engaging warm-up activity—this might be a fun literacy or math game, or a light emotional check-in to ease into learning. I ask friendly questions and talk about your child’s recent interests or accomplishments to build trust and comfort.Before each session, I reach out to parents to discuss your child’s mood, current classroom focus, and any emotional or sensory needs. Lessons follow a positive scaffolding approach: I model first, provide guided practice, and gradually let your child lead—building independence and confidence. Activities are multisensory and interactive—using digital whiteboards, visuals, manipulatives, and story-based tasks—tailored for visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners - including children with ADHD, ASD, ODD and more.
SEL elements such as naming feelings, pause-and-breathe moments, and growth mindset prompts are woven into the session naturally.Short movement or sensory breaks are integrated, especially after 15–20 minutes, to help maintain attention and emotional regulation. Tools like timers, stretch prompts, or choice-based pacing foster engagement and respect diverse needs.
Near the end, we revisit our objective with a short reflection activity or verbal “check-for-understanding”—confirming what your child learned. I provide a post-lesson summary: key academic points, emotional observations, and suggested home reinforcement strategies. After each session, parents receive a message with
- Topics covered & next step including observations about emotional regulation or engagement. Easy home-based activities tied to current goals.
- Updates may include brief notes on triggers, sensory needs, or emotional cues—ensuring continuity across home and school.
I set weekly or monthly learning goals in collaboration with parents and monitor progress via short formative assessments, quizzes, and check-ins. Session plans are adjusted dynamically based on what’s working or needing fine-tuning, ensuring learning is always targeted and efficient.
