About Joseph

Hello! I am Dr Joseph Akinyemi, a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of York and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I hold a PhD in Computer Science specialising in Artificial Intelligence areas such as Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

With over 10 years of experience teaching and mentoring students at top UK and international universities, I specialise in helping undergraduate, postgraduate (MSc), and PhD students master complex technical concepts, build robust software/data pipelines, and excel in their exams and dissertations.

I regularly teach university modules including:

* Applied Artificial Intelligence
* Data Mining & Text Analysis
* Data Structures and Algorithms
* Big Data Analytics
* Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Whether you are struggling with Python code, trying to understand deep learning architectures (TensorFlow/PyTorch), preparing for exams, or looking for expert guidance on your MSc/BSc thesis, I provide structured, clear, and patient mentorship tailored to your exact curriculum.

About the lesson

I believe in practical, concept-first learning. Every session is customised to your specific university module requirements, assignments, or project goals.

How sessions work:

1. Targeted Problem-Solving: We break down complex algorithms and theoretical concepts into intuitive, easy-to-digest steps.
2. Interactive Code-Along Sessions: We write, debug, and optimise real Python code together using Jupyter Notebooks, PyTorch, Pandas, and Scikit-learn.
3. Assignment & Dissertation Guidance: I help you design research methodologies, clean datasets, set up experimental ML models, and write up clean, academic reports that meet top marking rubrics.
4. Post-Session Resources: You receive all code files, notes, and annotated scripts from our session for your ongoing revision.

Subjects Offered:

* Programming & Core CS: Python, Data Structures; Algorithms, Java, Git workflows.
* Data Science & Analytics: Data Mining, Pandas, NumPy, Data Cleaning, Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA).
* AI & Machine Learning: Deep Learning, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Sentiment Analysis.
* Academic Mentorship: MSc/BSc Dissertation Supervision, Literature Review Guidance, Scientific Writing, and Research Methods.

Who I Work With:

* University Undergraduate & Postgraduate (MSc) Students needing module support or thesis direction.
* Working Professionals transitioning into Data Science, AI, or Python-focused roles.
* Self-Learners & Boot-camp Graduates seeking rigorous computer science foundations.
