About Tina

Learn to play all kinds of fiddle music by ear and/or learn to read music and have fun! Learn some classical Suzuki pieces as well! Over twenty years of teaching experience with students of all ages and levels. Tina is a registered Suzuki Violin Teacher, and has also studied at the Irish Scoil Eigse. In 1988, I was trained in Kodaly Music Methodology for a Music and Movement Program for children. I supplemented my training and started teaching fiddling, then harp, then ukulele.

About the lesson

A student will play something for me, so I can know what level they are at, and also see how the student physically relates to the instrument. (Many learning issues originate at the physical level, especially with fiddle/violin, i.e. how it is being held, right and left hand positions). My goal is to make it as physically easy as possible to play the music that interests the student, as well as improve ear training and reading. I have lots of ideas & games to make this easy, (games appropriate for adults as well as kids!)

All types! All ages, some with physical disabilites, some with focusing disabilites. Some students are very serious about music, and advnce quickly. Other students are beginners and they, or their parents, just want to enrich their lives with the Arts, so they pick an instrument to learn. I have taught rich people and homeless people. I believe that we all are more naturally creative than we give ourselves credit for! I have taken education courses at the graduate level and studied the book, "Multiple Intelligences" by Dr Howard Gardner. THis book hs been a huge influence on how I teach because everyone has different ways of learning. People who are aural become good musicians. People who are left-brained, analytical are good music readers. I love teahing all of them.

This can't happen while we are on covid lockdown, but I do have group classes that are a combination of recital, party and art activity (I combine a visual art project with music because they are two sides of the same coin). Students learn a great deal from one another at these events-they learn to play ensemble, they learn to not have stage fright, and they have fun!
