About Sophia

I love sharing my musical knowledge while sparking joy and inspiration to students. With the medium of talking about music, I love helping discover more about the way they think. On our journey through this, we discover valuable problem solving skills.

I have been teaching violin in private lessons, classes, and summer camps for six years. This December, I will be graduating from the University of Redlands with my BM in violin performance. I have soloed with operas, taken concertmaster and principle second violin positions with school and community orchestras, and competed in concerto competitions with ensembles in Chicago and LA area. After graduating, I will continue my studies until I get my doctoral degree and continue competing in competitions. My main goal is to keep having ambitious goals so that I can learn to let go of all my fears when performing under any circumstances.

I am about to graduate with my BM in violin performance. Within my university, I have taken a full year of pedagogy classes to prepare me for private teaching. For the past six years, I have taught in private lesson as well as classroom settings, both in person and online. I have also been taking lessons for the past ten years.

About the lesson

I first give the student space to talk about themselves. I usually ask a few questions about what their interests are and what their goals with music are. I then ask them to play something for me so I can get an understanding of what their skillset is, then I have a conversation of what music we will play and what our plans for the week are. I like to teach by guiding instead of giving strict instructions so that the lessons are tailored for the student.

I have worked with young students in elementary school who have just started as well as advanced seniors and every age and skill level in between.

Trust yourself. If you feel that a teacher is not connecting with you in a way that you need, then that is not the right teacher for you. However, if later you feel this has changed, a good teacher will never turn their back on you.

This past year has been extremely enlightening with all the changes from going in and out of quarantine. I recently conducted my class in their first in person concert of the year. I was so happy for the group because they were elementary schoolers who had grown through the obstacles of online learning. I could not have been more grateful for their efforts.

I charge $55 an hour and $30 for half. If paid in a prepaid bundle, I charge $200 for four lessons.
