Tried to learn on your own only to get stuck?

I'm here to help you. My focus is helping adults and teens reach their musical goals. You've probably spent some time thinking about what and why you want to play a string instrument, and I value that self-knowledge and eagerness in my students.

Over my 15 years of experience teaching violin and viola, I've come to realize that the biggest hurdles to learning are not talent or age, but sustaining motivation, environment, structure, and the ability to see progress.

I will work with you to set up an environment that makes practicing easy and gets you inspired. And I will give you a structure for your practice time so that you always know what to do and how to practice effectively.

My most extensive training is in classical music, which is a great foundation for all students. I received my Bachelors in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music, rated one of the top ten music schools in the US, and subsequently took Suzuki teacher training at the PhoenixPhest! in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

However, there are a growing number of string players branching out in rock, jazz, and electronic music (including myself!), and I think it's important for students to hear and be able to explore all the possiblities available to them. I have been an orchestral musician, played in bands, and joined in on fiddle jams at the local pub. Whether you want to play Beethoven, Irish fiddle, or Game of Thrones I want to help you learn the music you love.

I enjoy helping students experience music more deeply, and helping them develop this outlet to express their emotion and creativity.

I also find that I learn a lot from my students and get inspired by their projects and interests as well - it's a cycle of positive reinforcement that keeps me motivated.

I started teaching my first students when I was in high school!

A Bachelor's in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music

Former member of the Dearborn Symphony, and contract musician for the Toledo Symphony, Round Rock Symphony, and Austin Symphony, Adrian Symphony, Michigan Philharmonic.

Suzuki Teacher Training in books I, II, and IV, and additional mentorship from Ronda Cole and Gabe Bolkosky.

Violinist for the band fortune my foe (Austin, TX), as well as experience playing violin with Austin singer-songwriters.

Music composition and music production training from the School of Music, Business, and Technology in Austin, TX.

About the lesson

I like to have a conversation over the phone to learn a little bit more about what you hope to get out of lessons and to determine if I'm the best fit for you as a teacher. We can schedule an initial trial lesson so you can see what it would be like to work together, and then go from there!

I've worked with students aged 4 to adults in their 60's and from beginner to pre-college level.

One of my students, after reading all the Harry Potter Books, was inspired to write a song she called "Griffindor's Talent" for Viola.

Monthly Rates:

4 x 30 min Lessons - $150

4 x 45 min Lessons - $225

4 x 60 min Lessons - $275

Students may opt to do fewer than 4 lessons per month, a single class to address a specific challenge, or ask me if a group class is available as well !
