About Ryan
My name is Ryan and I am a freelance trumpet player and faculty member at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. As an educator the past nine years, I've had trumpet students from all walks of life: from ages 8-62, total beginners to the comeback player, and from various language and cultural backgrounds. With these experiences, I know what it takes to accomodate a wide range of learning needs so each student gets the most out of their lessons. As an active performer and passionate mindset coach, I also know what it takes to build healthy and sustainable mindsets and habits. A student's first lesson involves three things: first, I get to know them more as an individual and vice versa, where I also talk about my teaching style and approach. Then, I will ask them what their goals are; what do they want to accomplish... in a month? In six months? In a year? Finally, I have them play for me-- a piece they are comfortable with and something that is easy to sight read. I try to 'test' various aspects of their playing so I know what their strengths and weaknesses are as a trumpet player.
Don't be afraid to ask them specific and honest questions! A teacher's job is to not just teach your son/daughter, but to INSPIRE them. Ask about specific approaches they take during lessons. Also, ask them to PLAY for you. You can be a great teacher and not be a strong player and you can also be a strong player but not a great teacher. The difference between great and spectacular is if you can find an even balance between both.

Ryan is both a top notch artist and a phenomenal instructor. In all my years of learning I put Ryan at the very top for understanding the material he is teaching as well as his ability to explain it in a down to earth, relatable manner. Very few people are as gifted an instructor as Ryan.
