About Ashley

Hello! My name is Ashley and I am an incoming freshman to the University of California, San Diego planning to double major in Mechanical Engineering and Linguistics.

As a tutor, my goal is not to only help my students understand the material but to help them grow as individuals. I think it's important to have some fun while they learn! As a tutor, I strive to have my students understand the material, rather than focus on getting the answer.

I have experience in a multitude of subjects, have taken many AP tests (11) in subjects ranging from Spanish Language and Culture to AB Calculus. From the CollegeBoard, I recieved the AP Scholar with Honor for having high AP test scores (more detail can be provided upon inquiry). I have recieved the Golden State Seal Merit from California, recognizing my mastery in a minimum of 6 subjects. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from my highschool.

I also recieved the Cetification of Biliteracy in Spanish from the state of California.

I was previously a private tutor for a special needs student with autism. From the time I started working with her, to the time we had our last session, her grades and preformance in school improved. I conducted in person sessions and I spent about 10 hours with her per weekend, and some days during the week.

I love learning- whether it's math, english or a new language, there's something about expanding our horizons of knowledge that I think is special. Being able to share that joy of learning with others is my favorite part about being a tutor.

About the lesson

My typical process when working with a new student is to create a comfortable working/learning environment! I want to make sure the student feels comfortable around me, so that may mean some ice breakers or just casual questions and conversation. When a student feels comfortable around me, they're likely to be more forthcoming about their questions.

As a tutor, I like to ask them questions while they do their work, and ask them to explain their thought process to me, to see if they really understand the material. My goal is for the student to understand the process of what's going on, rather than memorizing steps.

I have worked with a special needs (autism and ADHD) student in the past.
