About Abigail

I believe that creating a nurturing, supportive, and fun environment is the best way to create an appreciation of music in it's entirety. I will encourage students to improve their skills, and they'll have a great time while they do. My extensive training in classical voice will allow for students to create healthy practicing methods and a strong technique, even if they are studying contemporary styles of music.

Teaching students to appreciate the arts is my favorite part of the job. Having music lessons, at any age, is so important. It teaches discipline, artistry, and commitment. However, I get to teach these ideas in an exciting and enjoyable way! I love connecting with people through the music they listen to and want to work on.

I had to take on a student during one of the courses I took that was required for my undergraduate degree. I realized I loved explaining how to use the voice and watching people improve with my help.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2019 with my Bachelor Degree in Music Performance with an emphasis in Voice. I will be graduating with my Master of Music Degree in Music Performance with an emphasis in Voice from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2022. I have taken numerous Vocal Pedagogy classes and have taken on beginning students throughout my studies.

About the lesson

A typical first lesson will be me trying to learn as much about the student as I can. It's important to know what kind of music they listen to, who their favorite artists are, and what they are looking to accomplish by taking lessons. After we get to know each other, we can dive in and begin with the basics which is always the best place to start.

I mostly work with beginning students who have no formal music training. Whether you're 8 or 80, I believe that everyone should take music lesson at some point in their lives. I have worked with children and adults who are interested in creating music in a fun and nurturing enviornment.

It is important to make sure your teacher values your goals, interests, and passions as a beginning musician. Having someone who both encourages you to progress while supporting you when things get hard is the most important aspect a voice teacher can have with their student.

I had the opportunity to sing at the UCSF Hospital for a covid outreach program. A group of musicians sang for patients in the ICU over zoom and being able to bring music to people in isolation was an incredibly fufilling experience.

Details

I tend to charge based on 30 minute and 60 minute lessons. A typical 60 minute lesson will be 100 dollars per lesson and a 30 minute lesson will range from 50-60 depending on what needs to be accomplished during this time.
