About Mick
With a background in musical theatre and opera as well as several degrees including an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University. I am experienced in teaching all manners of contemporary commercial music styles as well as opera and musical theatre. I specifically tailor each lesson to the students needs/goals creating a base technique and building from that to create a voice that is your own.
I love to watch my students grow and succeed at what they do. It has been a joy to watch several of my students go on to musical theatre programs across the country and some performing professionally.
I began teaching while earning my undergraduate degrees as a way to make some extra money, now it is a passion.
I recently graduated from New York University with a Masters in Music in Vocal Performance in Music Theatre and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy. While there, I taught several students across the university including students from the Tisch School of the Arts.
I also have both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Michigan

About the lesson

First lessons are spent discussing goals and setting expectations. An opening "diagnostic" will take place sometimes with a full song or a series of exercises to get an idea of the students ablilities and what their natural tendiencies are.
I have worked with all manners of students, from countries all over the world from high school age to adults. Local artists in the folk, grunge and pop genres as well as college students studying acting and musical theatre.
