About Sarah

I offer private voice lessons to students of all singing levels ages 6-adult, as well as beginning piano lessons to all ages. In addition to earning my Bachelor and Master of Music from the prestigious San Francisco Conservatory of Music, I have real world experience living and working as a performing artist on the West Coast, New York City, and in Europe. My 20+ years of performing experience include numerous concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic and Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, operatic performances in the USA and in Europe, and musical theater productions, most recently in Ohio.

Whether you are a parent looking for a beginning piano teacher for your child, an adult who has always wanted to take music lessons, or a teenager preparing for college auditions, I will work with you to determine the right course for you or your child! I believe it is important that music lessons be fun and creative as well as challenging to the individual.

I have taught privately in home and at music schools in California, New York City, Cincinnati, and as a professor of voice at Northern Kentucky University. I teach not only in the style of classical music, but of musical theater, pop, jazz, and country as well. Currently, I am teaching online via the Zoom platform.

I love sharing the gift of music through working with my students. I have learned that each and every singer, no matter the level, has a story to tell and a gift to impart to the world. Helping students find their inner artists, come out of their shells, and fine-tune their skills has been a great passion of mine these many years.

I hold a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in Voice, as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in vocal performance. I have 20+ years of professional experience, including performances with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Vienna Philharmonic, among others.

I also have extensive professional experience as a performer of musical theater, playing many leading roles.

I have worked as a private voice instructor for many years privately, and at the collegiate level (Northern Kentucky University).

About the lesson

I usually start by inquiring as to the previous training and experience of the student. Then, typically, I would ask to hear one or two songs to assess the skill level. Following that, I will begin to vocalize the student with exercises to further assess skill and range. By the end of the first lesson, I will often recommend one or two songs for the student to begin to learn for subsequent lessons. I believe that both the student and the teacher should feel comfortable with the working relationship, and that it takes several lessons to determine if we are a good fit for one another. Openness is key when working with a new teacher/student.
