About Dr Sarah Ellena
My goal is for students to understand their bodies and their instruments so they can create a comfortable, energetic physical technique. I help students develop a deep sensory awareness, pursue the intellectual development of musicianship, and express innate emotions through stylistic choices and musicality.

According to parental legend, I was a noisy child who began singing as soon as I could talk. At age four, I began formal Suzuki violin training, sang in children's and youth choirs, and played in orchestras from elementary through high school. In 1990, I was the Mississippi Governor's Scholar scholar to Interlochen Arts Camp. I began teaching violin and voice in 1992. My B.M. and B.A. are from Southern Miss, as is my Doctorate of Musical Arts. I hold the Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
I hold the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Southern Miss; a Master of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; plus two undergraduate degrees, a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts (German). In addition to my voice training, which began as soon as I could talk, I studied Suzuki violin for sixteen years. I've been teaching since 1993. I consider music to be a language, one that I speak as fluently as my native English.

I listen to students sing or play the violin to assess their skills. Next, I ask students about their goals and musical interests. Then I formulate a plan for their physical, technical, mental, and musical development.
