About Jonie

Hey there!

My name is Jonie Stumbo and I have been an avid seamstress since I was mearly 5 years old. It began with a love for dresses and a mother who loved to make everything a school project. From there I became infatuated with learning new sewing skills and creating new projects. At 16 I started teaching a local 4-H club, helping teach young children how to sew. While a young child, I also created a comunity service project called "Making Life BEARable" where we created and donated teddy bears to local fire, sheriff, and EMS stations to hand out to scared children.

After moving to another county, I started another community service project where we created and delivered fun pillowcases to different organizations including Levines Children's Hospital to bring some joy to these young kiddo's lives.

I have competed in many 4-H Sewing competitions throughout my childhood, and I have hosted and judged these same competitions as an adult.

I love teaching new skills and helping people to become more independent and well rounded individuals. Having sewing skills is a great way to get started!

I enjoy teaching others how to make something from nothing. How to take a simple piece of fabric and turn it into something beautiful.

I had such a passion for sewing and I loved working with children so I decided to try to start teaching sewing to children and I fell in love. Watching their faces as they have the ability to make something new is the most wonderful sight in the world.

I have 18 years of expereicne with sewing and I have taught sewing to children for 8 years.

About the lesson

First I like to get to know the student, and figure out what knowledge and skill they already have. Then, I work from there teaching them the basics from how to operate and use a sewing machine, and then we move on to learning how to create projects and items with the basic skills we have already learned.

I work with any type students. Whether they are 2 or 92 I would be happy to teach them what I know!

Find a teacher who is willing to give you individualized attention, and fit what they plan on teaching to what you are wanting/needing to learn. Find someone who will respect you and not belittle you as they are teaching you.
