About Monique

Hello, thank you for considering me.

I began sewing at a young age. I remember sitting next to my grandMama while she sewed on an old green Elna. She taught me handwork, painting, pirography, and crochet.

i began my formal sewing/tailoring education in 1994 under the expert tutelage of the first female Master Tailor, Ms. Susan Igou. I studied under her for 15 years and began teaching group classes while she supervised.

My primary expertise it teaching beginners, children and adults. I focus on traditional garment construction. I believe that with a good traditional foundation any sewist can accomplish anything they desired.

I also teach homedec, quilting, and bag construction.

I love teaching. I love sharing my knowledge with others. For me my happiest time is when the “lightbulb comes on” and my student gets it. My second favorite time is when my student feels empowered, grows wings, and follows their dreams.

I’ve always enjoyed teaching. I have taught software, skiing, and sewing.

Studied under a master tailor for 15 years.

Have taught at local sewing schools.

just opened my own sewing school.

About the lesson

I like to get to know the student first and their goals with regards to sewing.

i usually work with beginners when teaching a structured class. I work with all levels during Open Atelier Sessions (open studio).

i charge $40/hour for private lessons.

if you can make it to my Atelier and take one of my Learn to Sew classes it’s $35 per 2.5 hours of instruction. My class size is limited to 4 students so you get personalized attention.
