About Malia
Hi there! My name is Malia Lane and I am a 26 year old certified Elementary School teacher, currently teaching the 2nd grade! I have 5 years of teaching experience- in those I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. I graduated from UH Manoa with my BEd, where I dual majored in Elementary and Early-Elementary Education.
I adore teaching reading, writing, math skills, phonics, comprehension, science, social studies, grammar, and vocabulary! I am especially passionate about breaking down the complicated English language into simple, bite-sized morsels!
I can't wait to meet the needs of your little learner!
One of the greatest things in life is watching a child grow in their knowledge, skills, and CONFIDENCE! One way to do that is to make learning fun. Whether it's memorizing double-math-facts, or leveling up on phonetic skills to help reading and writing- it has to be engaging to stick in a child's brain!... And that's where I come in :)
I have always wanted to be a teacher, literally, since I can remember. While other 4 year old girls wanted to be a princess or a pop-star, I wanted to be a teacher. As I got older, this desire only got stronger- bringing me to where I am today. While I student taught in college, just learning the ropes, I fell in love with watching the kids' eyes light up when they finally understood something. I loved providing them with a space of patience and warmth that allowed for learning to be calm- and not scary.

I've worked with students from ages 3-9!
One of my current students entered the school year as a struggling reader. I let him know right off the bat that he would be progressing quickly, and to be ready for it! I started from the beginning with him with letter/sound repitition. We then moved into letter blends and confidence building. Fast forward to 2 months later, and he is reading at his 2nd grade level. He is spelling words and is EXCITED to learn more.
