About Destiney
Hi,
My name is Destiney Smith and I am a 26 year old first generation college graduate. I majored in Biology (Pre-Dental) and I am currently working as a dental assistant in a pediatric office. My long term goal is to be a pediatric dentist and teacher of dentistry. I fell in love with teaching and tutoring when I decided to take a job as a kindergarten teacher assistant at Henderson Collegiate Elementary School. This charter school is one of the best in the country scoring in the top 0.3% of schools. Henderson Collegiate fully equipped teachers with any and everything needed to successfully teach students at above average curriculums. I learned to teach students with various learning styles and how to deflect behavioral problems when teaching. Although I was only a teacher assistant for a year it left a lasting impact on my life. I love seeing that "aha" moment when subjects finally begin to click to students who may begin to feel hopeless. I would love to be of assistance and relate to students who are working hard to be successful as am I.
I enjoy being able to see students light up as the subject begin to click for them. The "aha moment" is so refreshing for both the teacher and the student because they are both working equally as hard for the student to be successful.
I have a biology degree and Spanish minor which has pushed me to be flexible in many subjects such as math, English, sat/act prep and of course biology/beginner's Spanish. Throughout college, I worked as a tutor for grade potential tutoring where I successfully taught biology, algebra and beginner's Spanish. I also have experience working as a kindergarten teacher assistant where I learned to target different learning styles and give students constructive criticism to help them grow.

When working with a new student I always like to briefly get to know my students and allow them to get to know me as well. I feel like getting acquainted allows students to be more vulnerable in making mistakes and receiving constructive criticism. It also helps me to get to know the learning style of my student and base lessons around that learning style. Our first session will be based around getting to know one another and what we can do to optimize our time in order to get the most success out of our sessions.
