About Carole

I love to teach students about music and also strongly encourage their participation. I feel sixty percent responsible for encouraging their love of music, their requirement for practice, and their development as a musician. I hold an undergraduate degree from West Virginia University, a Master of Science degree from the Juilliard School, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Catholic University of America. I taught for thirty years at the University of Kansas and have taught all levels of students from the age of 7 to 77. I was active not only as a teacher but a soloist and chamber musician.

I always wanted to teach and started at the undergraduate level. In the middle of my DMA I decided to take a full time job for one year as a sabbatical at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and then went to the University of Kansas.

I have an undergraduate degree in piano from WVU, a master's degree from the Juilliard School, and a DMA from Catholic University of America. I taught for 30 years at the University of Kansas and have taught all levels of piano from 7 to 77. I was also active as a soloist and chamber musician.

About the lesson

I make every attempt to start where the student has left off. I build on that and try not to go backwards. I select new music from existing music, and I do not change the music for at least four or five weeks. That gives me time to get to know the student a d choose what one likes. Of course if the student does not have music, we get it.

I have worked with all ages of students at all levels.

My two brothers, one sister and I surprised my other brother on his birthday. We came from different places in Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. We surprised him in the morning, had a catered lunch, kidnapped he and his wife and put them in a deluxe suite at our hotel before we went out for another dinner. He was greatly surprised and we all had a wonderful time.
