About Kayleigh
I approach the learning process as a collaborative effort toward a common goal. I start out all lessons with a free consultation where we can get on the same page about what your goals are, what you interests are, and your preferences for teaching style, lesson duration, frequency, and type of music.
I tailor my lessons to meet your needs, because with music, there is no one right way to learn.
I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to share my passion for music and piano with others. I started playing piano when I was 7 years old and I stole my older brother's piano books because I wanted to be able to play so badly, but I couldn't start lessons until I was 8 years old. That passion has stuck with me through the 10 years of classical training and 20 years of playing.
I hope that I can share with you the gift that it is to be able to sit down at a piano and play something beautiful.
I have 20 years of experience playing piano, where I received classical training for 10 of those years. I am experienced with all time periods and genres of music.
I also have my doctorate in occupational therapy, which may seem unrelated at first, but many of the teaching and learning concepts I use everyday as an OT, I also use when teaching piano. I use a strengths-based and interests-based approach, as evidence has shown that to be most effective for promoting skill achievement. And I feel that learning to play an instrument should be fun.

I start with a consultation where I determine their interests, their starting point, their learning style, and their preferences for lesson duration and frequency.
For new beginners, I like to start with the Alfred Piano Series. It contains piano lessons and music theory education, both of which I feel are important for fostering growth in not only piano but for other instruments of interest as well.
For those with some experience, I use a basic assessment to see where you are in your journey and we work from there based on your experience, knowlege, and preferences.
Find someone who is willing to listen to what you want out of lessons, what your interests are, and will cater your experience to that.
A good teacher will give you space to provide feedback, because learning is a collaborate experience where both the teacher and the student have the opportunity to learn.
