About Maggie

Maggie born in Chengdu, China. She has performed in various concert venues throughout China, North America and Europe. Some venues include the Teatro Pavone in Perugia, Joseph Joachim Concert Hall in Universität der Künste Berlin, Neidorff-Karpati Hall and Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Hall in New York City.

Maggie has also participated in many music festivals, including the International Music Summer Festival in Leipzig, International Academy of Music in Italy. She has worked with many well renowned pianists, including Markus Groh, Thomas Rosenkranz.

Besides pursuing a solo career, Maggie is also a very active chamber musician, she has worked with Gregg Pauley, and Michal Tal, Peter Winograd, Jonathan Klibonoff, Gerald Robbins.

Maggie has been giving private piano lessons on the side for 5 years with all levels and ages, since teaching is one of her biggest passion, her goal in teaching piano is to share the passion for music and to inspire students. She studied piano pedagogy with Marjean Olson for 1-year, advanced teaching technique with Carol Aicher for several months, both during her study in Manhattan School of Music.

Maggie started to play the piano at the age of 4 in the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. She just recently accomplished her bachelor’s degree in Classical Piano Performance at Manhattan School of Music in New York City with renowned professor Phillip Kawin.

I started to teach(tutoring) when I was 16, when my aunt had a teaching studio for piano, i would be the tutor for the kids.

I studied 1 year of advanced teaching with Carol Aicher, 1 year of piano pedagogy with Marjean Olson, both during my bachelor degree in Manhattan School of Music while I was majoring in Piano Performance.

About the lesson

It would depends on what age range are the students, but generally speaking, I would start with a song or tune that they like with a very beginners's score to make them very excited about music and piano, and slowly teach them how to read notes and scores, how to position your hands on the piano keyboard, how the piano keyborad works(black and white keys), how to tap the rhythm, also a bit of music theory (major, minor).
