About Amber

Hi! I've been teaching piano for 17 years, and I’ve teach music in elementary schools. I studied elementary music education at BYU-Hawaii. I played in a jazz band in college, and I've done lots of accompanying. I think piano lessons should be fun and stretching.

I've always loved teaching, and piano is one of my favorite things to teach. I started teaching in High School to help pay for my own piano lessons, and then loved it so much that I continued through college and after.

I've been playing the piano for 18 years. I took piano lessons all growing up, and then studied piano and education at BYU-Hawaii. I've been teaching piano for 15 years, and I teach music at en Elementary school during the day.

About the lesson

I always start with an interview to learn about the students' motivations and expectations. Then we talk about my expectations, and set goals and make plans together. I do my best to cater my teaching to the needs and goals of my students.

In High School all of my students were young children, but I taught several university students when I was in college, and I now have a mix of children, teenagers, and adults in my studio. My students at the school I teach music at are from all over the world.

I feel like personality is one of the most important componants to consider when selecting a teacher. So I would suggest meeting a teacher before deciding if you want to hire.

I had the opportunity to go to Europe with a group of teachers last Summer to learn about the Finnish education system. While there I explored Europe, ran a marathon, ate delicous food, saw incredible art, went to some amazing concerts, and learned a ton.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
GOALS. This is the most important thing. Decide WHY you want to take piano lessons, and then the teacher can help you.

Amber is open to cater the lessons to what I want to achieve. I especially appreciate her guidance on techniques. I was staying stagnant with piano for years because I kept playing but didn't do any exercises for my fingers. I gave up midway on a lot of pieces because of that. After 2 months of once a week lessons with Amber, I notice my fingers move more fluidly than I have ever been able to do. Having Amber helps me stick with practicing frequently and embracing improvement because she is truly a very encouraging teacher.
