About Cecilia
I have a deep-rooted passion for music which began for me as a child. My Mother, Father, and both maternal grandparents were very gifted in music. They were my true musical mentors who encouraged and supported me throughout my growing up years. They inspired me by example and by teaching me the philosophy that I could accomplish whatever I desired if I were persistent and never gave up in the process. I will help my students achieve their goals by instilling in them that same philosophy that my parents & grandparents instilled in me.
I have been playing the piano since the second grade. My piano instructions began in grammar school and went all the way through college. As a senior in high school, I was chosen to attend "The Academy of Music" at Winthrop College. Each school day I would leave Lancaster High at 12 noon to go attend various musical, college-credited classes, which would count as credits toward my freshman year. I took piano pedagogy at Winthrop from Dr. Eugene Barber for 2 years, before I changed my major from music to education. I obtained a B.A. and M.A. in Education from the University of South Carolina. I taught in the Lancaster County School District for 18 years before retiring. During and after this time, I've taught private piano lessons, private voice lessons, and after-school lessons in music.
The one accomplishment that stands out to me was performing on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee with the Oak Ridge Boys back in the early 70's.
Teaching music to others is the most rewarding experience one could ever imagine. By teaching others music, I am facilitating their learning, opening up doors that the students never imagined could ever be opened.
I have a Master's Degree
