About Maria
I give one-on-one instruction while noticing likes/dislikes, strengths/weaknesses, and working off those signs to improve interest and knowledge.
I love teaching something and seeing the fruit of it... the result being someone being able to play the piano! Having knowledge of music can apply to many other instruments! My first student was a friend of the family (I was in high school at the time). I taught her for 2 years. When she reached a certain age/grade, learning the flute became available to her. She decided to switch instruments. I was happy she was continuing with music, and as a result of taking piano, she had a head start for learning the flute! We never stop learning. I hope as many people who are able will find an opportunity to learn an instrument!
After taking piano lessons for many years, I felt music would be apart of my life for a very long time. While in high school, a friend of the family asked if I would teach her young daughter piano. I remember butterflies in my stomach, wondering, can I really do this? Can I teach someone else how to play and enjoy an instrument I have played and enjoyed for so song? Yes. Yes, I could! And I did!
I have a Bachelor’s in Music. I took private piano lessons for 11 years from the sweetest lady who also taught my youngest brother for many years. I taught my first student while still in high school. After college while at an internship in Bethel Alaska I had several students. I then lived in DeKalb Illinois for two years and taught several students. In 2011 I said “I DO” to my Danville PA native husband. Shortly after, I began to teach in Danville. I have been blessed to have my student numbers increase over the years.

Once books are selected, I teach from the method books. I use extra activities, games and exercises when needed or as they relate to our lessons. I try to notice strengths, and weaknesses, working with different learning styles to encourage progress.
And of course, practice makes better and better! 😊
I have mostly had brand new students with no previous experience. Ages as young as 5 years old (*may be too young to start depending on child) all the way up to adults!
You always want a teacher to care. Truly care. The “pay check” is not at the heart of true teaching. Wanting YOU to learn, YOU to progress, YOU to achieve something should be what you see in your teacher, and feel is their heart.
My students have 2-3 Performances per year. This is always a fun time where the students, after much preparation and excitement, get to show off their talent! Our last Performance was a Christmas Concert in December 2018. The event was full of piano playing, singing, bells and shaker rhythm added to select songs, and even a guest clarinet solo and violin duet! It was a wonderful time!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As the student, are you applying yourself to the best of your ability? Do you have a practicing schedule in place, and do you follow it? If there are questions about a song or materials, it typically comes out during the lessons, and a resolve of what to do/how to practice.

She's great with kids and my daughter looks forward to seeing her each week. A very good job of teaching the basics. Also very helpful that she comes to your house too!
