About Roger

Creative, cost effective photography and video production services for businesses and individuals. I enjoy helping students learn the fundamental skills of composition, lighting and camera operation to create useful images. I also work with models to create portfolios for agency casting. I discovered Cindy Crawford in 1982.

I like to create, produce, shoot and edit video and photography projects that require vision, good ideas and challenges met. Sharing that passion with students has always been rewarding and inspirational to me.

I started teaching at NIU when I was working on my Master’s degree.

BA Radio/TV/Film NIU

MA Communications NIU

30 years of part time teching in media at Kishwaukee College, College of DuPage, Kishwaukee College, Illinois Institute of Art.

About the lesson

Break down the photographic process into a series of steps. The last of which deals with camera settings.

Video students start by exploring storytelling, visualization and pre-planning then move onto camera techniques, lighting and post production editing.

I’ve worked with students from elementary school age through senior citizens. Also worked with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Ask about their specific areas of expertise. Are they portrait photograhers but your interested in lanscapes? Find out if the skills they teach apply to your area of interest.

I had the opportunity to help a young woman who was interested in modeling to get over her nervousness and start to express herself visually.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you want to learn. What do you already know. What equipment will you be using.

Perfect! Roger was a consummate teacher! I really was invigorated by his enthusiasm and he is a very careful and patient teacher. He makes sure that one not only has a working knowledge of photography, but also knows one's own camera in order to practice taking pictures.
I cannot wait to go back and learn more from him. Thank you, Roger!

Perfect! Roger is a super teacher...it is evident that he has been teaching for many years. He has extensive knowledge of photography, and yet, helps a learner feel comfortable, even starting from the basics. He is patient and excited about what he teaches so the learner can only become more interested and easily understand concepts. I feel very grateful to have found Roger, and intend to continue taking lessons from him.

I had a wonderful experience with roger. As a teacher he was always willing to answer all of my questions. Roger gave me the ability to understand all of the controls on my camera and how they work together.
Roger also helped me develop my creative eye, for which I am truly thankful for. He really spent the time with me I needed to grow as a photographer. Thanks roger.
