About Karrie

I have been a photographer since 2001, and in addition to running an active studio in downtown Key West, I also am formally trained. I began as a darkroom assistant back in the film days, apprenticed for 3 years for a photographer in Brandon, Florida before taking on my own work, then completed a degree in Photography, and a Bachelors in Fine Art, which focused heavily on Art Education. I was Adjunct Professor of Photography at the International Academy of Design in Nashville, and enjoyed the highest reviews of all the instructors in my department...my students still contact me to this day to check in and tell me their progress. I love helping others break into this rewarding work, whether as hobbyists, moms who just want better pictures of their kids, or budding professionals who are looking for somewhere to start.

Originally, just friends and neighbors always asking me to help them with their cameras, but I have always had a love of teaching, and so it was just a natural addition to work I was already doing.

• Associates in Photography

• Bachelor's in Fine Art with a strong emphasis in Art Education

• Former Adjunct Professor of Photography at International Academy of Design & Technology

• Taught Leadership Monroe County for 4 years

• Taught Social Media and Content Marketing Seminars for HSMAI, Attractions Association, Lodging Association, Tourist Development Council, Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, and the Key West Chamber of Commerce for a total of 5 years

• Currently offer Photo Tours around Key West with either group or one-on-one instruction

About the lesson

I customize the lessons to each student's goals and existing knowledge.

From the super beginner who is picking his camera up for the first time, to those more advanced who want to get better at posing, lighting, and more advanced skills.

make sure your instructor is current on modern equipment, techniques, and style.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Are you familiar with my brand of equipment?

Have you taught students with my similar skill set before?

Can I contact you after the session for follow up questions I may not have thought of during the class?

And have them describe their ideal student...if that description does not sound like you will be a good match personality-wise, keep looking.
