About Maurice
I discovered the power of exercise when I started running my senior year of high school as a way to help counteract the effects of asthma, which I have had since birth. I found that by gradually and progressively increasing the duration of my runs I was able to adapt to their physical demands. Over time, I noticed I could do more strenuous activity and exercise longer without an asthma flare up. Since then I have known no limits to what I can do physically.
Recreationally my activities include (but are certainly not limited to), hiking, biking, skiing and kayaking. Competitively I am an endurance runner, competing in events ranging from 5k to marathon distance. Experiencing the medicinal powers of exercise gave me a passion for fitness and a strong desire to help people improve their lives. As a result, I became certified as a Personal Trainer in 1998 and a Medical Exercise Specialist in 2006.
My goal is to enable people to live healthier and happier lives by arming them with the knowledge and ability to make fitness a lifestyle. Also, to bring out the capabilities they possess for athletic performance and empowered living.
My efforts to do so have lead to being an invited guest speaker at local & national companies / agencies including; the University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and The Dept of Homeland Security. Additionally, I have had the honor of being a consultant for the US Navy in their efforts to help Seal candidates perform better on their physical screening tests.
Throughout my career I have had the pleasure of working with individuals ranging from Olympic caliber athletes to those who are completely new to exercise. Regardless of the individual’s situation, witnessing their transformation into a healthier and more confident person never fails to bring me great joy. Now, having just turned 50, my passion for health, fitness, and overall well-being is elevated to a new high. My athletic abilities have not waned and I’m still competing at a high level. I’m actually feeling the best I have my entire life!
My goal is to challenge the standards for age related decline in performance, for myself as well as my clients. It may sound cliché’ but I want people to experience what I have, that the only limitations we have are those we place upon ourselves.
