About Jacob

I just entered my third year of teaching Spanish, and it is truly my passion! There aren't any words that compare to the feeling when a student finally understands something that they struggled with. That joy on their face is why I teach.

I began teaching in my undergrad as a Teaching Assistant for the Spanish Department at Berea College in Kentucky. Under this role, I helped prepare materials, taught classes when professors were absent and tutored students who needed help.

After graduating college, I moved to Hartford, CT to start an official teaching position. I currently teach 7th to 9th grade Spanish in Hartford, and I love every minute of it. Within this job, I have experience teaching a vast array of students, including LD and EL students and differenting lessons for them. In addition to this, I am also working on my Masters Degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University.

I enjoy helping students and making genuine connections with them.

I became a Teaching Assistant in college and loved it.

I have a BA in Spanish and am working on my MSEd in Education. I am also a certified Secondary Spanish teacher in Connecticut.

About the lesson

I first get to know them. I ask to see their previous work and ask them what they are struggling with. No one knows what a student needs more than the actual student, so I always start with their needs. How do they best learn? I then adjust my lessons to fit their needs.

I have worked with all types of students from students with LDs to EL students.

Look for the best fit for your student and listen to their needs.

A student who was adament about her hatred for school got a perfect score on her assessment and told me that she loved coming to my class.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What it is exactly that they need help with. I can help if they give me a certain topic; however, I can't do much if they tell me they need help with everything.
