About Jerry
I have taught leather crafts for many years and at many levels. I can work one on one or in small groups of 12 or less. I belong to 2 leather guilds, one local and one international. I also have a teaching degree and years of experience in a classroom. I love to teach beginning leather crafts and I love to teach the art of making leather mugs. One of the goals of our local guild is to teach the future about leather working so the art doesn't die out.
I have a BA in education and I have been doing leather crafts for over 45 years. I am a member of 2 leather guilds, one local and one international. I have competed and assisted judging in leather competitions.

About the lesson

I start by introducing what leather is and the different types of leather and then move into the tools and what they do. After this introduction the student chooses a project and we work on it together. Depending on the time available the project can be completed in one or two classes.
I have worked in one on one situations, at camps, with scouting groups and most recently started working with high schools to teach leather working.
Look for someone who has done a lot of different things in leather.
I did an event sponsored by a school district for art students from the local high schools. I taught the students how to make a leather covered picture frame and small Christmas ornament for them to take home. Many of the students made the frames to give as gifts to family and friends for Christmas gifts.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The biggest thing is do you have the basic tools and supplies to teach leather crafts. I have enough tools to teach up to 15 students now, but prefer to only teach up to 12 so I can work with anyone who has questions.
