About Kelly
I am a dedicated music educator with more than 30 years of experience teaching private lessons, small groups, and large ensembles. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance as well as two master’s degrees in education. I currently teach high school orchestra and serve as a conductor with the Minnesota Youth Symphonies.
I have experience performing on and teaching all string and woodwind instruments, with violin, viola, and oboe as my primary instruments. I work with students of all ages and ability levels, from complete beginners to more advanced musicians preparing for auditions, performances, and ensemble opportunities.
For beginning students, I focus on building a strong musical foundation through healthy playing technique, note reading, rhythm, tone production, and good practice habits. I believe students make the most progress when lessons are both structured and enjoyable, so I incorporate music that matches each student’s interests and goals. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and individualized, with an emphasis on helping every student feel successful.
Most importantly, I want students to enjoy making music. Whether a student is learning an instrument for the first time, building confidence for school orchestra or band, or working toward advanced musical goals, I strive to make each lesson positive, engaging, and rewarding.
