About Swami

The Shiva Meditation Course will be taught by Swami Atmananda Saraswati, Co-Director of the Ann Arbor Shiva Yoga Meditation Ashram. Atmaram has received meditation teacher's training certification from Swami Shankarananda and Swami Muktananda, and has been meditating for over 40 years. Swamiji welcomes you to experience the path of inner transformation that teaches seekers to live their lives with a high level of awareness, intelligence and compassion. The Kashi Nivas Shiva Meditation Ashram provides a spiritual environment in which seekers can be awakened and guided on their path to self-realisation.

It is very rewarding to help people learn the benefits of meditation. I enjoy meeting everyone that comes to our weekly Shiva Meditation group that meets at 7:30pm every Tuesday night at the Kashi Nivas Shiva Meditation Ashram in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Swami Atmananda has over 40 years experience as a meditation teacher and is an accomplished Self-Inquiry facilitator. He has been certified as a meditation teacher by Swami Muktananda Paramahansa and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shankarananda.

I retired from the University of Michigan and at the request of friends and collegues I began to offer meditation instruction and spiritual counseling.

I have been meditating for over 40 years and have meditation instructor certification from both eastern and western meditation masters.

About the lesson

The key to meditation is finding what works for you. In each weekly meditation class you will learn a new technique, providing you with a range of practices to choose from. These include:

Guided chakra meditation (with accompanying CD)
Mantra meditation
Breath meditation
Meditation in the world: how to use meditation in your daily life

I have worked with students of all ages, genders, races, and nationalities.

It helps to have a positive intuitive connection with your teacher so both of you can quickly establish respect and trust for each other.

I was recently delighted to help a student work through a difficult block that was holding them back from being happy for no apparent reason.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is going on in my inner world? What area of life is this block related to? Is it a relationship issue? Is it a health issue? Is it work related? Is it a spiritual block? Then ask, ‘What do I need to do in order to fix the situation?’ ‘Do I need to do something?’ For example, take an action such as speak to somebody, or make a plan. ‘Do I need to change my attitude?’ For example, surrender to the situation, or have a different understanding. ‘Do I need to leave the situation?’
