About Kacie

I am a special education teacher with 3 years of experience in my field. I currently work with students in kindergarten-1st grade that have intellectual disabilities, autism, and speech delays. My certification is for birth-3rd grade content.

My favorite part of teaching and tutoring is making connections with children on a 1-to-1 or small group basis. Students make such immense progress when they have a deep connection and relationship with their teacher or tutor. They develop a sense of trust with them which allows them to expand their thinking and learn in a variety of ways. Those "light bulb" moments when something clicks in their brain are so exciting, but make it all the more rewarding when you have a strong connection with the student.

I graduated from Arizona State Univeristy with a degree in early childhood and early childhood special education in 2018. During my student teaching and internship positions, I worked with students in 1st grade, preschool, special education preschool, and self-contained autism. I currently teach a class of students in kindergarten-1st grade with intellectual disabilities, autism, and speech delays.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I find it beneficial to develop a relationship with them before teaching any new content. I often bring a game, toy, or a favorite item for us to talk about during the first session. It allows the student to see that you take an interest in them and gives you something in common with the child. After we have built the beginning of our relationship, I find it best to discover how the child learns- through visual, kinesthetic, or auditory means. Using this knowledge helps me formulate lessons that will be understandable and accessible for them. Lastly, I dive into getting a baseline of the topics they know as well as the areas that we need to work on.

I have worked with students in general and special education from preschool-3rd grade. I have also worked with students that have autism, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, and speech delays.
