Review the core skill necessary to solve the problem at hand. Start with easy and simple.
Show how we apply that skill to the problem.
Ask student to try problem themselves. Guide through tough steps.
Repeat until student can solve type of problems on own.
Assign some homework on the skills learned during session.
Assign a little more homework on fundamental skills usually found in the introduction to a math book and often overlooked, like PEMDAS. :)
