About Jacob

Struggling through many highschool and college courses myself, I have a unique perspective for the tutored student. A vast knowledge base isn't enough to facilitate learning, but having patience and empathy for the learner.

I have tutored many students in many subjects ranging from Algebra and Biology to English and standardized testing. Very few thought they had the ability to do well which tells more of the indiviudals confidence than their ability in any subject. Gaining confidence is the key to succeeding as most subjects are easily learned as long as the facilitation is matched to how the student responds best.

Algebra is my specialty as I have found that anyone can learn it, even those who think they are "bad at math". It is an easy subject at its core, but it is taught as if it is difficult. When I explain things so simply to students, they don't beleive me at first as their primary education has complicated the subject. Once they see the patterns and logic within math and algebra itself, they can begin to solve problems on their own and regain a level of confidence they had thought they never had.

I seeked out tutoring myself through my struggles in certain courses. Going throuhgm ultiple tutors, it stuck out which ones really helped and had a skill in the profession. I wanted to be able to help others as they did myself.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Biological Health Science where I gained a formal education in math up to Calculus 1, English literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, as well as a well rounded list of electives.

I have tutored all through college within a company however began tutoring on my own in 2018.

About the lesson

I look over what course work they are assigned, ask what issues they think they may have, and then determine what common issues may be in place. I find that assisting in homework can be a great way to see how they think through a problem and when they hit roadblocks.

Students ranging from early Highschool to late college level. I have even tutored people in standardized military and vocational testing to aid them in their career pursuits.
