About Evelyn

Teaching and learning are both intertwined. As a teacher, you are a student, and as a student, you are a teacher. While teaching, my primary goal is to teach my students to identify the way they learn, aside from teaching the specific content of a subject. It is beautiful to watch another human being mastering his/her ability to understand and comprehend—the experience brings joy, happiness, and fulfillment; both the learner and the teacher.

I started as teaching and assistant.

I am a retired university professor with forty years of experience. I worked in school teacher training, teaching undergraduate students in liberal arts, business, science, engineering, computing, and mathematics. To this day, I continue to update teaching techniques in mathematics, using new resources such as software to support teaching, learning to use different teaching platforms, and teaching online.

Education: Ph.D., Applied Mathematical Computation, Wisconsin-Madison; M.A. Differential Geometry, UPR-Rio Piedras; B.S. Science Concentration in Mathematics.

About the lesson

First, I interview the student to decide which are specific needs regarding this type of service.

To start a tutorial work with a student, I determine the level of study in mathematics they are, and I try to identify their particular doubts. Then, I present a specific math problem for that student, and together we solve it, and through questions, I determine any deficiencies the student may have. This last aspect is essential because shortage can limit the understanding of other levels of mathematical knowledge.

Mainly, I worked with college-level students. In addition, I trained high school students to do research work in math and tutored middle and high school students.
