About Florence

As a prior Foster Grandparent I've work with 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade students helping them understand the school work presented by their teachers in class. Mainly work with the children to understand the type of mathematics that they are currently working on, this would include Rocket Math as their practice for learning their mathematic timetables. Help drill the students for spelling test using the different methods for the different units the individual child's were on. Help typed up or handwritten papers they needed to turn in with their answers. Help with the use of computers and how to set up there pages. And any other thing the teachers wanted me to work with the students. Students would take and use Google Classroom to connect and have access to the items that are for their specific grade at school which is also accessible remotely.

One of my passions is to help those in need because when I was young there was no one there to help me. I love being able to find the ways needed or follow the methods provided by the teachers to help the child over come their weakness and to be on target with their peers.

This would be the ability to help children in need to improve their ability in learning the subjects that they need help in. My main focus is the mathematics for second through fifth grade.

By becoming a Foster Grandparent through Catholic Charities Joliet Diocese where I started in December of 2017 where I've completed the background check through catholic charities by a state police founder printing and background check including criminal background checks and rechecked with the public school district in Joliet before moving into working in the catholic school system. Besides math being the major focus I'm also assisting in the technology lab too.

I have an A.A.S. in Business Computer Programming 1989 and completed all but three courses (statistics, project management, and the senior project) at DeVry University online when I ran out of money.

About the lesson

I've worked with 2nd grade students doing Jan2018 thru the end of March 2018. I couldn't complete the school year at the school due to rotator cuff surgery.

In the fall of 2018 to present, I'm working with 4th and 5th grade students at a local catholic school. I love the kids, the environment and can easy being the u.s. the highlight of my day.

Volunteering as a Foster Grandparent at St. Jude during the 2018-2019 school year working with the 4th and 5th grade class where I do one- on- one work or group work with up to 9 students in math, rocket math, reading, spelling, and testing.
