About Mikoto

**Due to COVID19, only online lessons will be offered until further notice.**

Hi there! My name is Miko and I am a psychology major and rising sophomore at the University of Miami. I have lived in Miami my whole life, and graduated Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in 2019. I am fluent in Japanese and English, and am an advanced Spanish speaker/writer.

My passion for teaching began when I started volunteering at YMCA Japan every summer since freshman year of high school. I taught young Japanese students, age 3-6, how to read, write and speak English. I was astonished by how quickly students can learn in a positive environment, and was inspired to teach and learn more. Though I have only been a college student for one year, my psychology courses have already taught me so much about how children work and learn best, and I am beyond excited to ue my skills and see my students succeed!

Finally, please do not hesitate to contact me at (concealed information) if you have any questions or concerns about starting lessons for your child.

Above all, I love to see students come to enjoy learning! Oftentimes, children feel pressured to succeed, which in turn reduces their personal desire to learn. This causes their mentality to switch from "I study because I want to learn!" to "I study because if not, I will get in trouble". My style involves positive reinforcement, where I set a few milestones that finally lead up to their final goal.

This style allows the student to feel rewarded each time they reach a certain goal. This positive emotion becomes a great purpose to reach the next goal and so on, until they reach their final destination!

About the lesson

If the student is below age 15, I will need to briefly speak with the parent prior to the first lesson by email, phone or in-person, whichever option is best. We will discuss the course material, any goals, and any questions or concerns you may have.

If the student is age 16 or above, this is not necessary, though it is still an available option.
