About Macy

I am a 5th grade math and content teacher. I specialized in math, science and technology in my elementary education studies at JMU. I’ve been teaching 5th grade math for 4 years. I am an expert at the “new” way math is being taught. I know when a student is in the concrete, representational, and abstract stage of their math learning and how to mold an authentic math scholar.

I have extensive training at the undergraduate and graduate level on how to teach conceptual, student centered mathematics ranging from pre-K-algebra1.

About the lesson

First, depending on their grade level and school division I will access their mathematics pacing guide to see the specific objectives they are covering and the deadline of when they need to to be proficient in the objectives. Then, I would give the student a quick preassessment to see where their areas of strengths and weaknesses are. A preassessment will also allow me to see if they are in the concrete, representational, or abstract phase of their mathematical thinking. I will then meet the student where they currently are and we will grow as mathematical thinkers from there.
