About Mariana

Math. Ew. Who likes math? Not you, you say??

Well... let me change your mind about that! I believe that having fun leads to success, which is why I help make learning fun and stress-free for all my students.

When I was in the 8th grade, I was bussed up to the high-school to take math classes. I was kind of a nerd!

When I was in 10th grade, my high school principal sent failing summer school math students straight to me. My first client started with a 58% and ended with a 95% in the class.

When I took AP Stats, my teacher instructed the substitute teacher to have me learn the lesson and then teach it to the class. The kids all did better on the next curved exam! Some of my friends told me they learned better with me teaching than with my experienced teacher.

Then I realized I really wanted to be an artist and went to art school in Rhode Island. I still love math, but knows how to make learning easy, fun, and even creative!

I love working with students at all different levels. More than being a math teacher, I help you study and work in ways that make sense to you as an individual.

My biggest frustration in school was feeling like my teacher taught in a way that made no sense. I would usually read chapters on my own in order to understand and conceptialize the material and then my friends would come and ask me for help with homework or studying.

My biggest goal is making sure that each student has their own optimized learning system. I love to watch my students grades start to improve and see their confidence increase! More than anything, my favorite thing about this job is feeling like I'm really making a difference in someone's life!

My grandfather was a brilliant and well-known math professor for biomedical and mechanical engineering. He taught me how to love math and how to spark joy into the process of solving a problem. By the time I was four years old, I was doing 3 column addition.

I always liked helping my friends with their math homework when I was in elementary school. This eventually led to me tutoring when I was in high school.

I was a professional tutor throughout my high school years.

After college, I worked as a professional and upscale nanny in New York City. I nannied and tutored children with learning disabilities including ADHD and Dyslexia.

About the lesson

I always start with a free consultation to figure out where the student is having difficulties. We start by assessing the last 2-3 assignments to see what lessons they're learning in class and where they're making mistakes. I then get to know the student better and figure out where they are getting frustrated. Each person has a different learning style, and I believe anyone can be good at math and even enjoy it!

I've worked with students who have been failing math for a long time. My high school principal used to send me the kids who struggled the most and who had no luck with other tutors. With my tutoring sessions, the kids were able to turn around their grades.

Make sure that the tutor you hire is willing to study your curriculum and has a great amount of patience and understanding.

My lessons are $20 for 30 min or $30 per 1 hr online with a 1-hr minimum and a 3 hour maximum.
