About Searsy

Children can come year round before school, after school, get help with homework, during breaks or during the summer to continue working on keeping their skills sharp or too improving their skills at any level in any subject matter taught at the Elementary Level.

It's rewarding! 30 years plus in the classroom, I enjoy seeing the light come on in the children eyes, when they finially get it, know and understand that there is joy in learning. When I don'st hear, this is boring, it's stupid, I don't need it anyway, I'll never use it. And at the end, I will hear them say this is fun. Then I know that I have made a different in a child's life! This is my true reward in what I do as a teacher. Never give up on a child!

As child I've always had my make believe classroom, teaching students as I was taught. After graduating from high school. I got an opportunity to go to Job Corps; I was afforded to take classes from the University of Oregon. After completing my academic trainingin Job Corps. I was accepted into the Upward Bound Program at the University of Oregon. So, that's how I got my traning in Elentmentary Education. Graduated, filled out an aplication that same year, had an interview with School District 4j, the next week I was hire as a 3rd grade teacher. That's how I got started.

I have two degrees: A bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the College of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Education, both degrees are from the University of Oregon. Also continue at Lane Community College after retirement. Taught for 30 years in Eugene, Oregon. Plus 15 years as a Guest Teacher, for The Eugene 4j, Bethel, and Springfield District for schools for Lane County Oregon. Also Sunday School Teacher for 16 years. Back To School, Stay In School for the NAACP that service students in the Lane County Schools of Eugene/Springfield Oregon.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with new students: one on one, small groups, whole classroom if applicable.

I have worked with students in a regular classroom setting. Skills ranging from below Pre-K to above K-6th grade. I have worked with students in an afterschool program who were having a difficult time keeping up with assignments in classes, sometimes I worked, one on one or in small groups with students.

My advice is not to judge a teacher on how he/she looks, sound or the color of their skin, they all have different learning styles and teaching styles; ask question of what is permissible or not permissible in the environmental setting, what expectatations do they have of you as a student.

A recent event with may grandson, went with no intentions, but to drop off his jacket; he had other expectations for granny being there. As I was making sure that he remember to take the jacket home, he blurted out, "are you going to stay," I said, "why do you ask, do you want me to stay," he said, "yes." I assured him that I couldn't today, but let him know that I would make time the next day. He said, "Okay! But be here at 9:50 am, that's when I have reading." I was so proud of him, wanting his granny to be a part of his reading period. That was a fond moment for me!
