About Brock

I have had a passion for teaching for many years now. When I was early in my college career, I spent a year teaching STEM to inner city children in Flint, MI, who did not have an adequate opportunity to learn.

During my time in college studying mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan - Flint, I worked as a math tutor for my peers. I worked as a tutor for students at the same time that I was a student. Therefore, I can relate to what students are going through and I can connect with them on a meaningful level to enhance learning.

My passion for tutoring or teaching exists because I love giving people the tools to be self sufficient. I teach Math around the fundamental concepts, and I hope to develop the critical thinking skills in students to help them tackle a wide variety of problems in their studies.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. This fall, I plan to continue my education at the University of Michigan - Flint, where I will begin working towards my Masters in Computer Science.

I got started teaching from a very young age by helping my family members out with their homework, usually math. From there, I learned that teaching is something I get enjoyment from. I also learned, as I got older, that teaching subjects like math helped me out in my own studies because it kept me fresh on past learnings.

I have an undergraduate degree in Mechanincal Engineering. I also have 2 years of tutoring experience. These include STEM tutoring for K-8 graders, as well as College math tutoring for college students at the University of Michigan - Flint.

About the lesson

To begin, I will start by asking the students a couple of general questions about what it is they struggle with, how they feel about the work they are doing, and how they feel about the subject was a whole. I think it's important to know what kind of mindset the student is in prior to teaching, that way I can try to adapt my style to best fit their needs.

After that, I will start from the groud up on the topic we are covering, that way the student can help get a fundamental understanding that we can then apply to their specific problems.

I have worked with every range of student from Kindegarden up through College Undergraduate age.
